Peace Part 7. Hope as a Foundation.

Here in Australia the countries leaders are putting together a 'road map' out of lock-down. And yesterday, as a part of this, they put a date on when everybody would be allowed out. Have their freedom back. And for a lot of people this was wonderful news.

But be careful where you put your trust.

Having a 'hope' that things will go back to normal, 'trusting' in the leaders that make these announcements; these are silly places to invest your hope and trust.

Investing your hope and trust in our leaders and in their predictions, is building your house, building your life and expectations, on shifting sand.

I'm not out of line in saying this - just go back and look and what these same leaders said and predicted last year. Not one single thing they said (we won't have lock-downs again, etc etc) has come true.

And here's the reality. Much of the mental anguish and stress you now feel is because you built your house, your future, on these foundations.

You built your house upon the sand of their promises and predictions.

And... as I look around me... many of you are setting out to do it again! With the faintest smell of 'good news' from the 7-o'clock news, from the 11 o'clock press briefings, you're off and running setting down foundations of hope and trust on what you think are solid foundations.

Stop! Stop and think!

You're going to end up wrecked, all at sea.

Here's the pathway to real peace. Not popular, not easy, but true and proven, with 2000 years of evidence to back it up.

If you want lasting and enduring peace, then your foundation needs to be Jesus Christ.

Here's what he said, as recorded in Matthew Chapter 7 verse 24 to 27.

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.
Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Matthew 7:24-27.

And what did Jesus say... is the teaching he's encouraging us to build our life on? Well, he boiled it down to one simple thing. One simple solid foundation.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Matthew 6:33
